
Marina Otero is currently one of the hottest figures on the world theater scene. The Argentine actress, dancer, director, and choreographer, who has turned her own life into the protagonist, or rather antiheroine, of her performances, is considered the successor to Angelica Liddell – a leading radical in Spanish-language theater for years. Marina Otero gained worldwide fame thanks to her autobiographical trilogy “Recordar para vivir” (“Remember to live”), which included the performances “Fuck me”, “Love me”, and “Kill me”.
Otero is coming to Poland to present her latest production, lecture “Ayoub”. The production will be performed only three times: twice at Teatr Powszechny in Warsaw (as part of Warsaw Theatre Festival) and once at Teatr Korez in Katowice, as part of International Performing Arts Festival A Part.
Love teaches me not to love.
Aiub. Ayub. Ainou. Aiou. I had as much difficulty pronouncing his Arabic name as I did understanding that our love wasn’t possible in an impossible world.
This name, in a sense, shattered my notion of the Western world.
Initially, this project was intended to save a man in trouble, and this man was supposed to save me from loneliness. I went to Tangier, Morocco, to find him, marry him, give him my Europeanized documents from South America, and create a new performance based on them.
But then Ayoub appeared, and the project fell through. His name (“he who returned” or “he who repents”) is very popular in Islamic countries: 115 children with this name were killed by the Zionist state of Israel in the Gaza Strip.
In the name of the dead, I give your name to this performance, which speaks of you, of colonialism, of migration, of Palestine.
And of everything I want to kill within myself.
