Marlena Niestrój – director, performer, choreographer and creator of interdisciplinary projects, working at the intersection of physical theatre, dance, ritual and somatic practices. In her work, she explores the relationships between the body, memory, femininity and inner experience. She is interested in art as a space for transformation, mindfulness and reconnecting with oneself. Her original performances, performative works and workshops arise from a need to create a space for authentic experience, presence and encounter.
She is the founder of the Paris Foundation (now the Kompas Czasu Foundation), the initiator of the Metavera Art Festival and the Ciszej Festival. She is the creator of Dworek Tiferet, a space for artistic and regenerative activities being developed in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland.
The performance “When no one hears anymore, when noone looks anymore” explores the various shades and aspects of the natural process of aging. The driving force behind this discussion are the words of actress Geraldine Chaplin, who stated in an interview that the most difficult thing about aging is that with age, one becomes invisible. The fear of old age is inextricably linked to the fear of death. The fear of death overshadows another fear: the fear of life. The play is complemented by the personal story of the author, Marlena Niestrój, who, as the wife of Piotr Szmitke, witnessed the illness and death of an interdisciplinary artist who died at the age of 58. If we assume that old age is the wear and tear of the body, then paradoxically it is independent of age.
