Holektiv was formed in 2016 when three artists, graduates of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague – Andrea Vykysalá, Eva Stará and Karolína Křížková – were united by a desire to create together. This meeting gave rise to a new, all-female theatre company on the Czech cultural scene. The name ‘Holektiv’ is a play on words in Czech, suggesting a group of girls/women. Holektiv combines genres such as physical theatre, dance and contemporary circus. The company has succeeded in creating its own unique style. In addition to choreographic projects, Holektiv is also involved in dance and circus education.
One is a cry and two are the laught,
three will be a marriage,
four will be a birth,
five of them are the silver, six are a gold
seven are a secret which you don’t tell,
eight are a heaven, nine are a hell
and ten were startled by a devil.
They live alongside of us, humans, in a same way as they occupy their own areas far away from people. Their colour, hunched posture and fondness for carcasses made them to be perceived as a death symbol. But they symbolize a birth too. Crows – bearers of dreams and secrets.
